Public spaces change the channel on TV use

The days of being alone in a hotel room are gone, according to Amaury Piedra, GM of the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Hotel guests have completed their shift from privacy to public areas, and in the process, public spaces have transformed into neutral areas where guests can be “alone together” and TVs are used for background news as opposed to attention getters, he said.

Netflix is coming to more hotel rooms worldwide

Netflix and an Enseo, the makers of an in-room entertainment platform for the hospitality industry, today announced an expanded agreement that will see the Netflix app offered in more hotel rooms around the world. Through the Enseo system, hotel guests will be able to log in to their Netflix accounts from their rooms, allowing them to stream Netflix’s collection of TV and shows, as well as access their own personalized settings, lists, and other content.

Dining on the go at hotels moves beyond just breakfast

Grab-and-go-dining at hotels started out as a way to send guests on their way with a good breakfast (and leave them with a positive last impression of the hotel). But the trend has grown in scope to encompass other meals and snacks through the entire day and night.

According to Jonathan Wilson, VP, product innovation and brand services for Hilton Worldwide, food-and-beverage is changing across the industry, shifting from full-service restaurants to grab-and-go throughout the day.

A new year brings new everything — new goals, new challenges, new plans, and (fortunately for us) new hotels. We’ve already gone the nostalgic route, taking you on a tour of the hot new hotels of 2015, so now we’re looking ahead at the brand-new hotels that will open their doors in 2016.

Of course, thousands of hotels (and tiny properties that we guess can be considered hotels) open annually, but some are more anticipated than others.
